About STEP

STEP is a borough-wide partnership linking the theatre community and education and youth sector in the London Borough of Southwark.

The activities that STEP provides for Southwark’s young people aim to ensure equal access to and participation in performing arts provision, even in the most deprived wards and areas where there is little regular activity by offering specific opportunities for targeted groups. STEP is committed to enhancing children’s and young people’s key skills such as speaking and listening and the ability to participate effectively in team-working. This in turn improves the self-confidence of Southwark’s young people and develops their ability to express themselves.

STEP’s objective is to work closely with Southwark schools, youth and community groups and theatres and performing arts organisations to develop creative approaches to learning and provide innovative projects which stimulate children and young people’s personal development and contribute to their educational attainment.

STEP Patrons: Sir Deian Hopkin, Riz Ahmed, Michael Billington
